It's been a wild few days in the Canyon... One of the biggest down pour rains in over 10 years seemingly coming out of no-where. At first it felt like our cold winter had mixed in some nice pockets of rain, and while completely a blessing... no complaining here; soon after, the rain awakened a mountain of mudslides that shut down the canyon roads. In some ways the uncertainty felt dynamic to the climate we are experiencing in the world, the immense saddness and aggression coming to a head... quiet honestly it's like a purging.
Our neighbor Jaclyn's home had unfortunately had some flooding..., So there we were; our landlord, she and I... emptying buckets of water for hours, hoping her place wasn't a complete diaster.
On the otherwise side of the weekend, we were met with a glimmer of hope, a profound signficance to the somnber inaugural weekend, a more positive affirmation and a historial moment. The Womens March coicidentally was one of the only days the rain let up to blue skies and sunshine allowing us a little freedom to speak our minds.
The march was historial and gave us an reason to identify with on this new and uncomfortable paradigm shift happening around us.
But, I write this with much positivity to the coming Chinese New Year, and feeling relieved that the unpredictable Monkey year is over and honestly looking forward to a more feminine (yin) super inspired (fire), and very grounded Rooster year!!.
Many mystics would consider 2017 as a bird rising from the ashes and soaring like a Phonenix. The Chinese New Year also commences on the first New Moon of the year, Jan 28th, but technically does not officially become the Rooster unil Feb 5th. During this two week long celebration in honor of the coming of spring, we make sure to do a good house cleansing days before, opening all doors to release any unwanted energy and bringing in the new. We spend time with friends serving tea and making food to honor the celebration. I will attempt to make some gluten free dumplings and feeling inspired to discover some new paths for myself, discipline and creating a recipe as a metaphor can be quite the elixir that is much needed to my creative process.
My guides say Rooster year will feel more grounded. This is the year to step it up, all while creating boundaries and understanding, the feminine aspects of this year. This means prepping and planning will get us further along. We must be diligent with our health, and realigning ourselves with a healthier lifestyle, losing weight, and taking better care of our emotional state, as well as trusting and following our instincts and intuition.
It will also be an extrodinary time for new beginnings because we are starting a whole new 9 year cycle. 2017 is year ONE.... It is important we continue to move in a forward motion. A Yin fire year can lead to wars and destruction, however under control it can actually lead to peaceful resolutions and a soothing of any conflicts. All in all this is a good year to take a risk and switch things up. Stay positive and be a loyal human!
Happy Year of the Fire Rooster! We Sages will be celebrating this year on the 28th New Moon in Joshua Tree for our 3rd annual Tea Ceremony, and then on the 5th for our local friends on Feb 5th. Come be with us.
