LIPJOY is the balm

“Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves”.  ~Albert Einstein

Today I share light on the very first product I designed, created and sold... My lip balm, Lip Joy.  Once called Hiwa Lani, I started making lip balm ten years ago.. It was one of those..“I just have to do this ” moments. And so I did.  In my kitchen, from scratch... an organic lip balm was born.

at the time I didn't know anyone making their own products, let alone creating campaigns and photo shoots.  looking back now I remembered on how exciting the process was.  I had my hands in every part...  I took an idea, then executed it to the fullest. I felt proud.

Earlier this year, I decided to take the Lip Joy website down. even though my plan is to still make it in limited batches, I wanted to make room for new ideas... It was time.

I woke up this morning pondering this, wanting to share an unspoken truth about me... I spend most of my days promoting and connecting other people, never stopping for a beat that I too make and create things... Until this morning.

Ten years ago we did not have the vehicle like Instagram to promote our desires, before social media catapulted the movers and shakers into LIKE stardom. I had left the Film music business, with the desire to change and do something different, my creative independence was at stake.. so this was the start of that.

Though I will say this is the best lip balm in town, My lip balm never gained the success it deserved, partially because I am better promoting others than myself.  But somehow I am okay with this. It has taught me so much about who I am, what I am capable of, and knowing it was my first and certainly not my last product I make.
