Tea Runners. Third Series.

Mr. Xie's Garden

Inspired by the simple, organic teas from Mr. Xie's farm in Taiwan, this series starts with warm Golden Rod shade from an oxidized Si Ji Chun oolong. Marigold, Yarrow, Lavender and Scabiosa flowers are painted in to create a garden of color highlights and details. When some of them were added to an Iron bath to deepen the blues, pale to dark Lavender shades of a moonlit night emerged.

This series comes at the time of the New Moon, Eclipse of the sun and stationed in Leo, these colors inspired visions of a mid summer nights tea gathering in the deep forest of or perhaps on a rocky outcrop, looking out into a fiery red sunset.

All Tea Runners are 100% natural linen and are approx 54-60in length. 5.5-7.5in wide. These are hand dyed and hand fringed, so variations and imperfections are part of their charm.

Satori: " The road to enlightment".... We sat quietly hoovering over each piece with tea and flowers in our hands. Surely, one of the most sincere practices, a meditation in it's own right/ letting the visions of nature take shape. a process in which colorful patterns emerge into a one of a kind design.

I'm certain experts and master dyers have studied their assembly line to create a preordained look, but this is not that. We welcome the time for it's natural evolution.

This is our 2nd Collection, 2018, thoughtfully named Satori came as a desire to revist this portal, when a tea sister asked for a new batch of runners, it inspired us to start making them once again.

Satori is about "Seeing into ones true nature"..... and our nature is tea. We have effortlessly been Tea drinkers for now 7 years and it is life long. It has been our medicine through ceremony, through fine cups, through travel, and through connectivity.

All our Tea Runners are dyed with tea that was drunk by us, flowers picked from our garden, herbs that were gifted to us, and foraged in the wilds near our home.

Know that these Tea runners were made with a loving and powerful intention to let the Tea live on. What's great, is... any tea spills, is now part of the art work, adding to a beautiful piece of art that can be handed down through generations. We chose Linen fabric going forward for that reason.

Like most natural dyers, every step is done by us. We wash, sew, and hand dye each piece. In all honesty, I raise my cup of tea to all the natural dyers out there because it takes quite a bit of work... This isn't our day job rather a growing evoltuion as tea drinkers, so understanding that quality and effort made pricing these quite tricky in all fairness.

Lastly, with this batch we had an ephiphany, we love making them. it's fun and meditative and perfect for this moment in time. We will keep continuing to make more for as long as possible.

Thank you for checking it out!! Love, The Sages

Tea Totems 2016 Collection Archives (below)

Tea Textiles

We have now sold out in our first collection of Totem runners.  A limited edition Tea + table runners that came about in the fall of 2016. We have decided to make these an occasional tribute to the tea inspiration flowing within us.

Tea Totems "We are the Wild ones"

Collection 2016

Each Flower, Tea leaf made its way here, transcending into a vision that took a life of its own, rather quickly, it was meant to be shared.

A totem is an expression, a symbol that serves as an emblem to a lineage, or tribe. We are tea people, a luminous knowing we are also the Flower people. All the while, we unraveled a unique flavor, just as if we were drinking tea, a feeling reminiscent and romantic much like running into a field of wild flowers and hiking up a trail surrounded by tea trees.

These Textiles, Tea + Table Runners were made simply because they spoke to us, they told us story.  Each Totem we gave a mantra, and it gave us an affirmation upon it's creation.

Made with 100% Cotton doek  fabric. The fabric is thick like canvas but much softer with a velvety texture that gives tea+ flowers some added expression.   Hand washed, cut and sewn with raw edges... there are imperfections in the cut, threading, and dying but that is part the beauty, a Wabi Sabi style noted in each piece.

For this series: We used Liu Bao, Shou Puerh, Oolong Tea leaves + Dried Roses, Sage, Scabiosa pods and recycled dried flowers.

Each piece is unique in size & dyed,  but the same color scheme in a series.  This artwork is a way of preserving the nature of these flowers and tea as intended.

Care Preference: Hand wash + Hung dry + Warm Iron Press:  Measurements : Most textiles are either 57 inches (W) x 10 Inches in (H).  Only a few are smaller at 42inches. Please check the description for size.

(Note: This type of fabric can shed if washed and dried in machine—However it is still durable and will look just fine after it is trimmed, brushed off and ironed).

Textiles Tea Runners were largely inspired by my friend clothing designer Emily Cadenhead who help sewed our Natural Dyed Flower Flags for our Heart Space event.  During one conversations, it was suggested I make "Tea Runners".  Soon after I was soaking fabric while drinking tea and writing poetry.  Something about it just clicked, it was like a meditation.  The element of Tea and Flowers made sense too, since I have been working on a few projects with tea and flowers.    This Photo was shot at our Tea Ceremony + Natural Flower Dying class lead by NYC Textile Designer : Cara Marie Piazza    http://caramarienyc.com/    Cara is the loveliest...  We are forever grateful for her extreme knowledge in sharing her love of dying.
